Our CarVia Share cars explained: How to operate our fleet

How to use CarVia Share

In order to (un-)lock your vehicle, simply use our CarVia App. Just choose your preferred car on the map and start the rental period on your phone.

Usage of the app is completely free.

In addition, thanks to our worry-free pricing, you always drive at the best rate. Depending on the duration of your trip, our algorithm automatically switches from the per-minute rate to the hourly or daily rate. This eliminates the need for complex route planning and reduces stress while driving.

Starting Your Rental:
You can see the exact business area in the map view of the CarVia app on your smartphone.

During Your Trip:
You are free to drive our vehicles outside the business area. Cross-border trips are allowed to the following countries: Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy, and France.
Please note the local regulations and toll sticker requirements –ensuring compliance is the renter’s responsibility.

Ending Your Rental:
To end your rental, you must park the vehicle within our business area. Once the car is properly parked and you have exited the vehicle, you can simply end the rental via the app.
If this is not possible, please contact our support team.

Fees for ending a rental outside our business area vary depending on the distance, as we need to send a driver to retrieve the vehicle.

If you're driving to Munich Airport, an additional fee of €19.50 will be added to the standard rental price. This fee applies when you park a vehicle from the Munich business area in Parking Garage 20, at the car-sharing spaces on Level 01.

If you're driving from the airport to the city center, the fee is only €17.50.

You are always welcome to charge our vehicles. If you're using a public charging station without its own cable, you'll find a charging cable in the trunk. A charging card is located in the glove compartment.

Simply plug the cable into the car’s charging port and start the charging process using the card at the charging station.

For Tesla vehicles, please note that the glove compartment can only be opened via the main menu on the display (there is no physical button). Also, at Tesla Superchargers, no charging card is needed – the station automatically recognizes the Tesla.

There are no charging costs for you!

You can refuel your CarVia Share vehicle at all DKV partner gas stations, including Aral, Shell, ESSO, Agip, OMV, and JET.

To be sure, look for the DKV symbol on the large price display at the gas station.

You'll find a fuel card in the glove compartment, which you can use to pay for refueling. There are no costs for you!

If you encounter any issues, no worries – you can pay for the fuel yourself and simply send us a photo of the receipt along with the vehicle’s license plate number. We will reimburse you.

Our vehicles are covered by both liability and comprehensive insurance. The standard deductible for most of our cars is €1,500, but you can reduce it to €0 for just €1 per trip by selecting the "Reduce deductible to €0" option.

The only exception is vehicles in the "Black" category, such as the Porsche Taycan. Due to the high insurance costs, you can reduce the deductible to €500 for an additional €3 per trip, but not to €0. If you do not choose this option, the deductible in case of an accident is €5,000.

Please note that comprehensive coverage does not apply in cases of gross negligence or intent. You can find more details in our Terms & Conditions.

Yes, with our car-sharing vehicles, international travel is allowed with some restrictions. You may drive to the following countries outside of Germany: Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy, and France.

Please note that you are responsible for all toll charges and any additional fees incurred abroad.

For registration, you will need the following documents:

  • A valid ID card or passport
  • Driver's license
  • A valid payment method
  • You must be at least 23 years old (For some vehicles, the minimum age is 25)

Accepted payment methods: Credit card/PayPal

Additionally, a good credit rating is required. We automatically check this via Schufa during your registration process.

Please note that we occasionally have registration pauses to ensure a good availability of vehicles for our users. This means that we may need to temporarily reject registrations. Thank you for your understanding!

This is what you can use your customer account for

Under the "User Account" section, you can make changes to your personal details.
Changes to your address and payment methods can be made under the "Your Payment Profiles" section.

If you're unable to make the desired change, please contact our support team at [email protected] with the requested update.

Under the "Privacy & Imprint" section, you can request account deletion. We will then proceed with permanently deleting your account.

You can change your payment information under the "Your Payment Profiles" section in the app. Simply follow the steps to update your details.

You can view all your past invoices in the “Invoices” section under the “User account” menu item.

Please note that invoices are created with a time delay to your trips.

You can look at all your past trips under the menu item "Your trips".

This is how you can also use CarVia Share for business purposes

Yes, you can use CarVia Share for business purposes.

The saved payment profile can be edited before each journey. The invoices for your journeys are always billed separately according to the stored payment profile.

You can create a new payment profile under the menu item “Your payment profiles”.

Under the menu item “Your payment profiles”, you can create a new payment profile with an additional payment method, e.g. for company purposes.

A profile name can be assigned to the payment profile for suitable allocation, e.g. “Private” or “Business”.

Before each journey, you can select the tariff to be used for billing.

Each payment profile has its own billing cycle.

Our sharing fleet can of course be used for business trips. For rentals longer than 7 days, please contact us in advance.

Trips abroad are permitted to the following countries: Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy & France.

No, only the person who started the rental is allowed to drive. If you want to change the driver's seat with your passenger, they must rent the car via their smartphone with their own account.

As long as the rent is not ended independently by the tenant, it will continue to run. Therefore, please try to get in touch with someone immediately so that they can call our service hotline and we can terminate your lease remotely.

In this case, we will process the administrative offense. A fee is payable for processing the administrative offense. This is based on our general terms and conditions.

Please let us know which vehicle the lost property is in and we will take care of the rest.

If you are still within range of the vehicle, you can ask our support team to unlock the vehicle so that you can collect your items.

If the vehicle is no longer within reach, please have the dates of the ride ready and we will check the vehicle as soon as possible. Fees will be charged for the subsequent shipping according to our list of fees.

Smoking in CarVia Share cars is prohibited.

A special cleaning fee will be charged for smoking in our vehicles.

Pets may be carried in a fixed transport box in our vehicles.

If you no longer have access to our offer in the CarVia app, you are probably blocked. There can be many reasons for this, but often a payment has simply not gone through.

Make sure that your account is covered sufficiently and that the payment details you entered are correct. Once you have updated them, send an email to our customer service team at . This also applies if you are blocked due to another problem.
