BMW 4 Series at a glance

Strictly speaking, the BMW 4 Series is just the coupé or convertible matching the 3 Series station wagon. However, since this is a clearly different and even more exciting body shape – obviously not only in our opinion – it was probably only a matter of time before the 4 Series would have a dedicated model name. Of course, this also means it will cost more to buy the 4 Series than the BMW 3 Series... much to the dismay of BMW fans.

However, it's not just the chassis that justifies the price. To be fair, it also has the better basic features and is only available with more powerful engines. The coupé is therefore aimed less at the family man who appreciates practicality and has a penchant for sporty driving. Instead, it is aimed at emotional drivers who enjoy driving and value good design.

If you were to go purely by nomenclature, the BMW 5 Series would be the next largest BMW model. However, it is located in an entirely different vehicle segment. Instead, the BMW 8 Series is the closest candidate – but interestingly, despite its bloated exterior dimensions, it offers hardly any more space than the 4 Series. However, this only means that BMW has planned incredibly efficiently here, as the 8 Series has completely different qualities.
